How Cats Really Feel About Baths

Good Meowrning! Today, I’d like to tell you how we cats feel about baths. Yes, you’ve heard it right, those moments when you decide it’s time to immerse us in water, whether we like it or not. Do you ever wonder what goes on in our furry minds during these watery escapades?

  1. The Initial Dread

Ah, the suspense begins! It’s all fun and games until you utter the dreaded “b” word – bath. As soon as we catch wind of your plans, we may scurry away, hide in our secret feline fortresses, or give you the best “innocent kitten eyes” look in the hope you’ll change your mind.

  1. The Sudden Betrayal

Then, the betrayal happens. You scoop us up and transport us to the bathtub or sink, often with an expression of determination mixed with regret. We might let out a few meows of protest, but deep down, we know resistance is futile.

  1. The Cold Water Conspiracy

You wet us with water, and that’s when we truly question the logic behind this whole bath thing. We’re already experts at cleaning ourselves – it’s in our feline DNA. But no, humans just can’t resist playing with water and soap.

  1. The Soap Opera

Now, the soaping begins. Our fur, usually sleek and shiny, turns into a sopping mess. We often pretend to be limp, lifeless, or immobile, hoping you’ll take pity on us and end this ordeal. But you persevere.

  1. The Wrath of the Waterfall

When it’s time to rinse, you unleash the showerhead or a cup of water. Some of us may go into “flight mode” at this point, but if you’re lucky, we’ll simply accept our watery fate and brace ourselves for the final rinse.

  1. The Great Escape

After you’ve drenched us to your heart’s content, you lift us out of the water. It’s our moment of triumph, as we slyly shake off excess water, aiming directly at you, our tormentor. Revenge is sweet, even if it’s in the form of a shower spray.

  1. The Ungrateful Towel Treatment

Now you wrap us up in a towel like we’re some delicate flower, as if we would suddenly forgive you. Ok, this part does kind of feel nice.

  1. The Post-Bath Sulk

Here comes the post-bath sulk. We might ignore you for hours, pretend we’ve forgotten who you are, and seek solitary confinement in our preferred hiding spots. All while giving you a disapproving “side-eye.”

  1. The Reestablishment of Trust

In time, our cat curiosity and affection return. We slowly approach you, sniffing your hands, and accepting head rubs and treats as peace offerings. We understand that, despite the baths, you love us in your own quirky human way.

So, there you have it, a glimpse into how we cats truly feel about baths. We may not enjoy them, but we tolerate them because we love you. Just remember, one day, we’ll find a way to return the favor – and we’ve got a lot of tricks up our fur-covered sleeves.

One final tidbit we’d like you to keep in mind is that most cats don’t actually need baths in the first place. We felines are meticulous self-groomers, spending hours each day keeping our fur pristine. Plus, we have limited sweat glands and regulate our body temperature through grooming, which is why we rarely need human-assisted baths.
